The low alpha wave (bordering Theta) mimics your natural pre-sleep and pre wake brainwave frequency. It enables the brain a smooth transition into sleep. For best results for sleep listen on low volume. For relaxation listen on medium volume.
Alpha rhythms may be recorded in approximately 95% of healthy adults with closed eyes. Neuroscientists recently made a correlation between an increase of alpha brain waves—either through electrical stimulation or mindfulness and meditation—and the ability to reduce depressive symptoms and increase creative thinking.
Your brain produces these waves when you’re not focusing too hard on anything in particular. Whatever you’re doing, you’re probably feeling relatively calm and relaxed. These waves measure between 8 and 12 Hz.
Alpha and Theta Waves each occupy a different frequency band: theta waves are the slowest (4-8 Hz), alpha waves come next (8-12 Hz).
